CiC on Crew Wages and Seafarer Employment Agreement

Paris & Tokyo MoU on Port State Control will launch a joint Concentrated Inspection Campaign (CiC) from 1st September 2024 to 30th November 2024 on Crew Wages and Seafarer Employment Agreement (SEA). Other MoUs may participate also in the campaign. This inspection campaign will be additional to the regular PSC inspections.

In that regard, SQE Marine consulting firm has issued circular to provide guidance on how to comply with the requirement of this new CiC. The purpose of the Inspection Campaign is to determine the level of compliance of all involved parties with the requirements of the Maritime Labor Convention, 2006 (MLC, 2006), especially those related to Crew Wages and Seafarer Employment Agreement.

A CIC questionnaire will be used to facilitate the adequate preparation of those involved. In accordance with the released information, a 10-question checklist covering the functionality and smooth flow of Crew Wages and Seafarer Employment Agreements can be found below.
Managers, manning offices, officers, and crew onboard should be prepared to successfully address the PSC CiC. Crew departments must verify that all relevant documentation for onboard crew is available to the Master for presentation to the PSCO. Allotments and wage payments should comply with the requirements of the Seafarer’s Employment Agreement. Wage or salary payments to seafarers must be made at intervals no greater than monthly. Each crew member should have an original copy of their SEA ready for inspection by the PSCO.

31/03/2024 Sallaum Lines celebrates milestone with Steel-Cutting Ceremony for ocean class series

One of our partners, Sallaum Lines, has reached a significant milestone in its journey toward redefining cargo transportation standards. The company recently hosted a steel-cutting ceremony on March 23 at the Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding Co Ltd Shipyard in Fuzhou, China. This ceremony marked the initiation of construction for the Ocean Class series, a fleet of state-of-the-art vessels poised to revolutionize the industry.

The Ocean Class series represents Sallaum Lines’ ambitious fleet expansion initiative, with the inaugural vessel named “OCEAN EXPLORER” leading the way. This cutting-edge vessel, with a capacity of 7,500 CEU (Car Equivalent Units), is set to raise the bar for efficiency and environmental consciousness in maritime operations.

Setting New Standards in Size and Efficiency

Sallaum Lines’ Large Car and Truck Carrier (LCTC) vessel stands out for its remarkable size and capabilities. Measuring over 200 meters in length, 38 meters in width, and with a depth of 15 meters, the Ocean Class vessel surpasses conventional Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTC) in size and capacity. Its higher ramp and deck capacity expand the range of cargo that can be accommodated, offering versatility and flexibility to meet diverse shipping needs.

The vessel’s design features 14 vehicle decks, ensuring effective cargo handling and maximizing operational efficiency. Developed in collaboration with the Shanghai Merchant Ship Design And Research Institute (SDARI), this robust design promises seamless cargo transportation, setting new benchmarks for the industry.

Environmentally Conscious Propulsion

One of the most notable aspects of the Ocean Class series is its innovative dual-fuel LNG technology. This propulsion system, developed in partnership with SDARI, enables the vessels to utilize liquefied natural gas (LNG), marine gas oil (MGO), and very low sulfur fuel oil (VLSFO). Not only does this versatile system enhance operational flexibility, but it also contributes to a significant reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.

Compared to traditional vessels, the Ocean Class series boasts an impressive 25% decrease in carbon dioxide emissions, aligning with Sallaum Lines’ proactive approach to combatting climate change. By prioritizing eco-conscious design and sustainability, the company is setting a new standard for environmentally friendly maritime transportation.

Looking Ahead: Delivery and Beyond

Set for delivery in late 2025, the “OCEAN EXPLORER” represents a significant leap forward in maritime innovation for Sallaum Lines. As the first vessel of the Ocean Class series, it symbolizes the company’s commitment to efficiency, sustainability, and excellence in cargo transportation.

With its cutting-edge design and environmentally conscious features, the Ocean Class series is poised to make waves in the global maritime industry. Sallaum Lines continues to lead the charge toward a more sustainable future, setting new standards for efficiency and environmental responsibility in ocean transportation.
